Love Hope Faith - Fohlenrettung

Lüneburg Heath

In countries such as Austria and Italy, Norikers and Haflingers are traditionally bred, while in Belgium and the Netherlands, Belgian cold-blooded horses and Trekpaard are bred. Every year in autumn, after the tourist season, these foals are up for sale. Even if some find a home in sports and leisure areas, 80% of the foals, mostly male, remain without demand, such as in South Tyrol - except for the meat market. For the foals, this means that they either end up at auctions or are sold directly to slaughterhouses. From the auction, they often go to Italy, where the foals are often fattened for a few weeks and then slaughtered. Foals that are born with a handicap or are injured during their time on the pasture or mountain pasture have no chance at all - that is, they are in immediate danger of being slaughtered. In 2014, the Lüneburg Heath Foal Rescue made room for three foals from Austria. Since then, we have been involved in raising awareness and establishing contacts so that the animals have a chance of finding a permanent home.
